Perched up high like the crown on Paris's head, this hilltop village serves up views so stunning, they've been inspiring creatives to pick up their brushes for centuries.
These days, Montmartre's got the perfect mix of old-school charm and new-school cool. Sure, you'll spot the iconic red windmill of the Moulin Rouge and artists still sketching in sunny squares, but now you'll also find ultra-hip wine bars and the cutest cafes tucked down secret alleyways. Just remember your comfiest shoes. But trust us, every step (and slight uphill wheeze) is totally worth it for the chance to live your best French village life...right in the coeur of Paris.
Meander through Montmartre

Nestled in the northerly 18th arrondissement of Paris, there are a few options for getting to Montmartre.
To get straight to the thumping heart of Montmartre, take the métro to Abbesses (line 12). There you’ll also find some nice cafés to start the day off with, as well as some eye-catching clothes shops.
If you’d rather start at the bottom and make your way up to the top, get Line 2 to Blanche, arriving in front of the famous windmill of the Moulin Rouge.
Other options include Pigalle (line 2) & Anvers (line 2) where you’ll find yourself at the foot of the Sacré-Coeur, but for a carefree vacation, note it can be quite a crowded entrance to Montmartre, rife with pickpockets.
Our preferred route and meeting point is Lamarck-Caulaincourt Metro Station, 105 Rue Caulaincourt, 75018 Paris. Halfway up the hill, one can avoid the crowds and swan through the local, quaint streets that wind up to the Sacré-Coeur at a more leisurely pace.
